Mary Juanita Barto
Religious Sister of Mercy (RSM). Joined the order in 1952. Professed her final vows in 1957. Accused publicly by a woman in the 2000s of sexually abusing her throughout high school, beginning when the woman was age 15 in the late 1960s. Per Barto’s accuser, the abuse occurred in classrooms at Mater Christi High School in Queens, on school buses to sporting events, at retreats in upstate NY, at the girl’s home in Woodside and at a Long Island Convent. Barto died 5/2/14. Lawsuit filed 2/18/20; settled in 2020.
