Fr. John F. Barrett

Placed on leave in 5/2002 due to old allegations that he molested an 8th grade boy in a Catholic school in 1968. The original claim was made in 1991; the alleged victim said the Diocese cancelled a meeting with him at the last minute when he wanted to bring either his wife or attorney with him. The accuser let the matter drop until 2002 when an investigator for the Diocese contacted him. Barrett was cleared by a diocesan investigation 6/10/2002 and returned to ministry. The Diocese said the claims could not be substantiated and the alleged victim was not cooperating. Barrett died 7/16/2014.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
