Fr. James A. Thoennes
First allegations in 1993. Civil suit in the 1990s alleged abuse of a male minor; settled prior to trial. Thoennes admitted in a deposition that he molested at least four young people in the 1960s-1980s. The bishop knew of allegations yet reassigned him to another parish. A second civil suit filed in 6/02 alleged abuse in the mid-1960s. After 1993 he worked in diocesan archives in a supervised setting. Privileges removed in 6/02. A third man filed a civil suit in 1/09 against the diocese, alleging fraud. A fourth suit was filed in 1/14. Included on the diocese’s list 1/3/14. Thoennes died in 4/19.
