Ordained for the Diocese of Austin where he worked 1959-1961. After a leave of absence he was incardinated in 1968 into the Salina, KS diocese. Accused in a 2/1/2005 lawsuit of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy, along with Rev. Leger Tremblay, in 1955 in the Alexandria diocese. McCarthy was then a student at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio, TX. The alleged abuse was said to have included rape and oral battery. McCarthy knew the boy from Camp Maryhill near Pineville, LA. The case was dismissed 7/31/2006 due to the statute of limitations. McCarthy was criminally tried in TX in 2007; found not guilty. He died 11/27/2017.
