Fr. Fernando Lopez Lopez
From Colombia. Sent from Rome, Italy to St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Los Angeles in 2001. Arrested in 2004 for abuse of a minor. Other victims found. Convicted in 2005. His conviction and prison sentence were overturned in 4/2006 by an appeals court. In 1/2008 the CA Supreme Court overturned the appeals court decision and returned the case to the court, which upheld conviction in 4/2008. The CA Supreme Court refused to hear appeal. Suit filed by a 20-year-old man in 5/2009. Lopez was deported, per the CA Sex Offender Registry. Per news reports in 6/2011, Lopez was convicted in Rome in 2000. The Los Angeles Archdiocese’s list of accused in 12/2018 shows Lopez to have been laicized.
