Fr. Alfred L. Jannetta
At least one claim was included in a 11/2002 $5M settlement involving 62 victims and 28 priests. Jannetta was shown as an active priest at that time. By 3/2003 he was “recently suspended” following allegations he molested boys in the 1970s. In 1989 he was known to frequent gay bars and to keep homosexual pornography in the rectory. He was preparing to go on a “gay cruise” when church officials intervened and sent him to counseling. Per the diocese’s list 7/31/2019, Jannetta was assigned to a life of prayer and penance. He died in 12/2005. Settlement in the low six figures announced in 3/2024 of a claim that Jannetta sexually abused a boy, age 15 or 16 around 1973 and 1974, after plying the boy with alcohol and marijuana.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
