Fr. Joseph Albert Fredette
Fled to Canada in 1974 after accusations he sexually abused 2-3 boys, including rape, at a halfway house for delinquents. Indicted in 1992. Arrested in 1994 and extradited from Canada. Civil suit filed in 1993 in NH by another man. Settled for $100K in 10/1994. Convicted in 1995. Sentenced to three concurrent 4-5 year sentences in prison. Served his time and was released. MA Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 10/2002, citing procedural errors. Named in D.A.’s report on the Worcester Diocese. Died in MI 6/13/2010. (Per Directories, was Joseph R., AA. There is a Joseph P. MS, ordained in 1957- not the same priest.)
