Named Auxiliary Bishop in 1990. Bishop of Springfield 1995-2004. Accused in 2004 of abuse of two youths in the 1970s. Resigned the same day; sent to St. Luke Institute for treatment, there for several years. Sued in 2004. Indicted on two counts of rape in 2004; no prosecution due to the statute of limitations. Living at a Washington DC retirement home as of 5/2010. Two claims were included in the Diocese’s 11/2008 $4.5M settlement with 59 plaintiffs. Dupre made a financial contribution to the settlement. Named in 2009 and 2010 suits as having reassigned abusive priests who went on to abuse those plaintiffs. Settlement of 2009 case in 7/2012. Dupre died 12/30/2016. Included on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused, which notes credible allegations that he abused in the 1970s and 1980s.
