Fr. Charles F. Dewey
Monsignor. Retired in 1987 and died in 1996. Accused by a male in a 2005 civil suit of abuse of minors at St. Mary’s in Dedham between 1971-1975. The suit involved multiple plaintiffs and named multiple priests as defendants. Attorney Durso said that almost all claims associated with the case were settled. The 8/2011 Boston archdiocese list reported that there was no formal determination of guilt either because Dewey died prior to a canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
