Fr. Gerard V. Dever
Per allegations in his personnel file, Dever repeatedly played with girls’ clothing and touched their breasts at St. Ann’s Elementary School in Wollaston. At least eight girls complained about him 1993-1996. Parishioners were so upset in 1996 that they were threatening to go en masse to see the Cardinal. Allowed to remain in ministry without suspension. Review board recommended continued therapy. Died in 1997. The 8/2011 Boston archdiocese list reported that there was no formal determination of guilt because Dever died prior to a canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
