Fr. Mario Porras Blanco
Originally from Costa Rica. Removed from ministry in the Diocese of Sacramento in 1973, where he had been assigned since 1969. Refused to return to the Salesians in Costa Rica, as ordered; stayed in Sacramento for several years and joined “a schismatic religious sect.” At least one settlement in 1991. In a 2002 lawsuit nine men alleged that Blanco sexually abused them when they were boys in Sacramento. By 1/2004 at least 17 men had accused him of abuse. A civil trial was set for 7/2005 but 16 cases settled just prior to trial. Name included on the Archdiocese of Seattle’s 1/15/2016 list of credibly accused; noted to have been active in Tacoma as a “traditionalist Latin church” priest from the mid-1980s into the 2000s. Included on the Sacramento diocese’s list of credibly accused in 4/30/2019, with allegations of the sexual abuse of 20 boys, occurring 1968-81. Blanco died in 2008.
