Fr. Alfred J. Bietighofer
At least four men alleged in 2002 that Bietighofer abused them late 1970s and early 1980s at Blessed Sacrament parish. Sent to St. Luke’s for treatment 5/2002; hung himself in his room. Worked in Peru in 1974 and 1986. A diocesan official knew of a complaint against Bietighofer in 1996. Claims against Bietighofer were settled by the Diocese as part of massive settlement in 10/2003; the Diocese paid $21M to 40 people claiming abuse by 16 priests. Another allegation was received in 12/2009. Per a report commissioned by the diocese in 2019, there were 17 victims, ages 12-15, of abuse occurring 1959-1989.
