Fr. Joseph R. Bennett
Archdiocese received allegations 11/12/2002 that Bennett had sexually abused three boys in 1976-1978. Oral sex alleged. Despite polygraph confirmation, Review Board found no reasonable cause to suspect. Alleged on 12/3/2003 to have abused two girls in 1967-1969, including rape. Board recommended removal 10/15/2005; Cardinal George kept Bennett in ministry until McCormack case broke. Removed 1/31/2006; at least 10 other allegations were received. Settlement 8/12/2008 released some documents. Personnel files released 1/2014. Laicized in 2014. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General’s Report.
