(WXYZ) Toledo, Ohio – The Rev. James Roth was beloved in the parishes he served. But he held a dark secret, no one knew about. Except, maybe, the young victim he later admitted to abusing.
“I’ve cried…I’ve been so angry at him at times.”
Rev. Ken McKenna knew Roth for decades.
“We were classmates.”
The Provincial in Toledo, he says the victim recently came forward, detailing abuse when he was 9 or 10. It would have been nearly 15 years ago.
“I have said to him, ‘you have done the right thing’,” said McKenna.
Roth was a teacher and administrator at St. Francis in Toledo, but also led mass at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception in Monroe.
