Accused have been identified as Mahesh Popat Narode (27) and Gaurav Dattatray Mali (21). This marks the third such case reported in Alandi.
A shocking incident has come to light in Alandi, Pune district, where a 15-year-old student at a reputed Warkari educational institution was allegedly subjected to sexual abuse. Two individuals have been booked under the POCSO Act late Tuesday (March 4) night in connection with the case.
The accused individuals have been identified as Mahesh Popat Narode (27) and Gaurav Dattatray Mali (21). This marks the third such case reported in Alandi since January, sparking widespread outrage among residents and raising concerns over misconduct within religious institutions.
According to Dighi Police, the victim is a child in conflict with the law (a minor under legal supervision). The incident reportedly took place in January when the student was asleep with other boys in the dormitory. Between midnight and 1 AM, accused Gaurav Mali allegedly approached the victim and engaged in inappropriate behavior, demanding sexual favors.
This continued for three consecutive days. When the victim informed Mahesh Narode, hoping for intervention, Narode not only ignored the complaint but also warned the boy against informing his family. Feeling helpless, the victim eventually filed a complaint at Dighi Police Station.
Previously, residents had raised concerns with Maharashtra State Commission for Women Chairperson Rupali Chakankar, highlighting physical and financial exploitation of children at various institutions in Alandi. Following their complaints, Chakankar held a review meeting at Alandi Police Station and ordered an inspection of these institutions within 48 hours.
A joint inspection of 165 institutions was conducted, and a detailed report was submitted to the Pune District Collector. However, no significant action has followed, fueling frustration among locals.
