A former priest and a parochial school teacher stand trial in Philadelphia on Tuesday, facing charges of molesting a 10-year-old boy in separate incidents more than a decade ago.

The victim, identified by prosecutors as “Billy Doe,” was allegedly repeatedly molested and raped by two priests and a teacher beginning in 1998, in one of the most disturbing complaints of child sex abuse to come out of the Philadelphia Archdiocese.

Now, one of those priests, Father Charles Engelhardt, 65, and ex-teacher Bernard Shero, 49, will be tried on multiple counts of rape and indecent sexual assault for the 1998-1999 attacks on Billy, a fifth-grader who was passed among his abusers, prosecutors allege.

The two men have pleaded not guilty.
