Suspended Priest Once Accused of Stealing $14K From Shelbyville Church WIBC.com https://www.wibc.com/news/local-news/suspended-priest-once-accused-stealing-14k-shelbyville-church SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- A priest suspended by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis over sexual abuse allegations was charged with stealing money from a Shelbyville church nearly 20 years ago. The Rev. John Maung was suspended by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Wednesday after being accused of abusing a child "several decades ago." Maung has denied the claim against him. Maung was charged in 1998 with forgery and theft. He was accused of stealing about $14,000 from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shelbyville. He was accused of having a gambling problem at the time, but Maung said the money was mismanaged, not stolen. The charges were eventually dropped when he agreed to repay some of the money, according to archived RTV6 stories. Maung resigned from St. Joseph after the case. (Photo by RTV6.)
