Rev. Joseph P. Friel, 62, attended Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure University and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Buffalo New York on March 16, 1957. After ordination, he served on the Missionary Apostolate at St. Mark Church in Rushford. He then served as assistant pastor at St. Joseph, North Tonawanda; St. Aloysius, Cheektowaga; Our Lady of Victory, Lackawanna; Fourteen Holy Helpers, West Seneca; St. John the Evangelist, St. Bernard, St. Bartholomew, all in Buffalo; and Blessed Sacrament, Kenmore. He then went on to serve as pastor of St Bartholomew, Buffalo; St. Patrick, Randolph; St. Vincent, North Evans; and St. Charles, Niagara Falls.
He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a former chaplain of the Father Baker Council of the Knights, a past president of the Alumni Association of Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, and a former trustee of that seminary.
He retired in 1992. |
