A priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York has been charged with sodomizing a 16-year-old boy in a Poughkeepsie rectory, authorities said yesterday.

The Rev. Daniel A. Calabrese, 31, pleaded innocent last Friday to two counts of third-degree sodomy and endangering the welfare of a minor. He allegedly sodomized the youth after getting him drunk in the rectory at St. Mary's Church late on March 7.

Calabrese's lawyer, Michael Gartland, declined to comment yesterday.

Dutchess County District Attorney William V. Grady said the investigation is continuing and should conclude within several weeks.

Calabrese was assigned to St. Mary's Church last year; previously, he had been at Blessed Sacrament Church in Staten Island.

Joseph Zwilling, a spokesman for the archdiocese, said counseling services have been offered both to the priest and the teenager.
