Suit Alleging Priest Molested Youth Is Settled United Press International March 28, 1989 An out-of-court settlement has been reached in a suit that alleged a Catholic priest molested an altar boy seven years ago, officials say. The Baltimore archdiocese reached a secret settlement in the suit filed by an Anne Arundel County couple in city Circuit Court more than a year ago. The suit against the Rev. William Simms involved sexual fantasies the 13-year-old boy was forced to act out at St. Andrew by the Bay Church in Cape St. Claire in 1982. The suit said the teenager has suffered severe depression as a result and required extensive psychiatric treatment. The couple had asked for $12 million in damages. The suit named Simms, Archbishop William Borders and the archdiocese as defendants. An archdiocese spokesman refused to discuss the suit Monday. |
