A retired El Paso Episcopal priest was arrested Sept. 1 in San Antonio for allegedly exposing himself at a park, according to a report by KABB in San Antonio.
The Rev. Chester W. King, 71, of Converse, allegedly told the officers he was "cruising the park" and began a conversation that turned sexual in nature, according to the report. King then allegedly took out his penis and began masturbating.
King worked at All Saints Episcopal Church in El Paso from Oct. 1981 to Aug. 31, 2008, when he retired, according to the church's Website. The church is a part of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande.
A spokesperson for the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas told WOAI in San Antonio that King has done some substitute work at several churches in the Diocese of West Texas, filling in for other clergy members who are on vacation.
The Episcopal Diocese of West Texas released the following statement to WOAI regarding King:
The Rev. Chester W. King is an Episcopal priest who retired in and remains canonically resident in the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande, and who now lives within the Diocese of West Texas.
Since moving into the San Antonio area in 2009, King has occasionally led Sunday morning worship services in churches of the Diocese of West Texas as a “substitute” for the local priest.
Pending the outcome of his arrest on September 1, King’s license to perform clerical duties in the Diocese of West Texas has been suspended by Bishop Gary Lillibridge.
