Memphis Settlement: Dominican Who Abused Teen Had Trail of Abuse Catholic Culture February 24, 2009 http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=2095 The Diocese of Memphis and an abuse victim reached an undisclosed settlement yesterday in the case of Father Juan Carlos Duran, a Bolivian Dominican priest who once headed the diocese’s Hispanic ministry. Expelled from the Franciscan Order because of homosexual abuse of a teenager, Father Duran entered the Dominicans. Although his actions while living with Dominicans near St. Louis University aroused suspicions, the Dominicans never informed the Diocese of Memphis. In a deposition revealed last year, Father Alberto Rodriguez, head of the Dominican Southern Province, testified that he lied to the pope when he wrote in a letter that he subsequently sought other diocesan assignments for Father Duran.
