ANAHEIM - A priest accused of molesting a boy in an Orange County hotel has been sentenced to six months in jail.

The Rev. Luis Eduardo Ramirez was sentenced Wednesday in a Santa Ana court after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors.

Ramirez had worked at Our Lady of the Pillar parish in Santa Ana since 2003.

He was accused of taking the 17-year-old boy to a hotel after his parents asked him to counsel their son.

As part of the plea deal, Ramirez admitted he touched the teenager inappropriately, gave him alcohol and lied to the boy's parents to cover up the crime.

However, prosecutors dropped the charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor, delinquency and child molestation.

Instead, Ramirez pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and burglary - a charge allowed when a building is used in the commission of a crime.

As a result, Ramirez will not have to register as a sex offender when he is released.
