	Man Recalls Alleged Abuse by Priest from 40-Years Ago; Sues Providence Diocese By John Eagan ABC 6 June 16, 2008 http://www.abc6.com/news/19986169.html Standing outside Providence Superior Court, 47-year old Massachusetts resident Jeff Thomas with his wife Deb by his side, filed suit, saying he was molested 40 years ago by a Catholic priest. Thomas says Father Brendan Smyth, a priest visiting from Ireland, sexually assaulted him at Our Lady of Mercy in East Greenwich, throughout 1968 he was in the 2nd grade. The lawsuit is aimed at holding the Bishop of Providence accountable for allowing this Norbertine father into a local parish. Symth died in 1997 while a Belfast prison where he was serving a four year sentence for molesting children. Thomas' wife just wants her husband, plagued by health problems, to be whole again.
