First Coast News has talked with the attorney who just filed the first civil lawsuit against Trinity Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

The lawsuit has been filed over the Bob Gray sexual abuse case and alleged cover-up by Trinity.

The suit alleges a "Jane Doe" was sexually molested as a child and Trinity did not protect her. What's more, the allegations say, the church "actively took steps to mislead parishioners as to Dr. Gray's fitness to serve in the ministry."

We talked with Adam Horowitz by phone from Miami. He's well known for his work in dozens of sex abuse cases, including those against the Catholic Church.

Horowitz believes the jury will be outraged over the evidence he has against Dr. Gray. Some of the evidence, according to Horowitz, goes back to the 70s showing Trinity "knew or should have known" Bob Gray was a serial child molester.

Horowitz believes this case is worth millions and he plans to file more cases. A number of people who claim Gray molested them have come forward. Because it's a civil lawsuit, Horowitz can go after the church on the fondling charges, which, in criminal court, are beyond the statute of limitations. Horowitz told First Coast News even one incident of fondling can have horrible consequences on a girl's life.

Bob Gray, the former pastor of Trinity, goes on trial for criminal charges November 12.

Trinity Baptist Church released a brief statement saying it is aware of the lawsuit. The statement indicates the church will comment at the appropriate time.
