Former T.O. Baptist Pastor Held in Alleged Sexual Abuse of Girl, Then 7 By Nancy Needham Thousand Oaks Acorn October 12, 2006 http://www.toacorn.com/news/2006/1012/Front_Page/003.html Authorities are trying to deter- mine if other children might have been victims of a former Thou- sand Oaks pastor arrested in Idaho last week on suspicion of child molestation while at Thousand Oaks Baptist School. A woman in her early 30s, who now lives out of state, has accused the Rev. William Alan Malgren, 52, of sexually assaulting her from the time she was 7 until she turned 14, according to Ventura County Sheriff's Department Se- nior Dep. Eric Buschow. The alleged molestation oc- curred when Malgren was pastor of Thousand Oaks Baptist Church and the girl was a student at the school that was operated by the church, Buschow said. According to the woman's re- port and accounts from eyewit- nesses, Malgren was asked to re- the group had narrowed the loca- tion down to two possible areas. School site council members were leaning heavily toward an area adjacent to the gym. But after ad- ditional studies, there was a shift in opinion. "We really were asking our- selves, 'What would make the most sense?" Vina said. "When we saw it, and how it would be positioned, we saw it would en- croach on more area than I even thought. The majority felt that re- ally wasn't the best place, look- ing at it from a realistic and more responsible fiscal situation." Contini said the location is at the Borchard Road area of the campus. It will be "turned 90 de- grees from the road, kind of tucked in so it's not visually ob- structing the view of the school." "The council has been very, very good about giving input on these issues," Contini said. "They've looked at utility prob- lems, fire access-a lot. Now the next level is creating the agree- ment. There are a lot of issues when you put a facility on cam- pus, both logistical and compat- ibility issues. There is going to be some joint use, so there's going to be scheduling and it's impor- tant to keep the site council mem- bership active in all this." Contini said the school will lose some parking spots to accom- modate the facility, but will re- cover them in another area. Pri- orities also include consideration of the color and texture of the building, as well as making sure any signage won't block the front of the school. "The school still wants input as far as design, and with the things to be offered, like the com- puter lab, the music room-things that would affect the student body," Vina said. "We want what's good for our kids, and we want to be involved in it and the things that will attract our stu- dents." The administration plans to bring the agreement to the board sometime soon, although a date hasn't been set. Both Contini and Vina said they were unsure about the timeline of the project. |
