Crossville Residents Warned of Alleged Sexual Predator By Melissa DiPane WATE July 15, 2006 http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=5155152&nav=menu7_2_1 CROSSVILLE (WATE) — In 1964, Vicky Cubberley was only 14 when she alleges she was viciously and repeatedly raped by her priest in Pennsylvania. The man has now retired in Cumberland County. By the time she came to terms with the abuse, the statute of limitations ran out. The man has never been charged nor convicted of a crime. For this reason 6 News cannot release his name. The only thing Cubberley can do is hand out fliers in his Crossville neighborhood. "Back in the 50s, 60s and even 70s, a priest was looked upon as next to God. It was a lonely time for survivors because no one believed us," says Cubberley. Saturday, members of the group Survivors Network of those Abuse by Priests, or SNAP, scoured the Fairfield Glade neighborhood in Cumberland County to tell neighbors of the man's past. "It absolutely worries me. I have nine grandchildren and my 13-year-old granddaughter was just here. It seems so safe," said one neighbor after receiving a flier. Cubberley says the man left the church and has since married. But she and the group SNAP worry her alleged attacker might strike again. "I will do everything in my power to stop him, no matter where he lives. I will follow him and expose him for the perpetrator that he is," says Cubberley. But their good intentions could be overshadowed. The group found out that the man no longer lives at the address they listed on their fliers. Another couple actually lives there. But 6 News has learned that the former priest has just recently moved into another home in the same community. So this story might be far from over. |
