Film Festival Kicks off in Boston By Sara Underwood CBS 4 [Boston MA] June 7, 2006 http://cbs4boston.com/topstories/local_story_158160122.html (CBS4) BOSTON Local film fans are buzzing about an annual film fest that runs for the next week. It's the fourth annual Boston International Film Festival. If you're interested in films unlike the typical Hollywood summer movie fare, this festival is for you. Here are some of the highlights. Don Cheadle received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role in the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda. The documentary "Journey Into Sunset" is the story of Cheadle's trip to Africa for a charity screening of that film. "Valley of the Hearts Delight" tells the true story of a depression-era kidnapping and murder case and the reporter who tries to stop the lynching of two men he believes to be innocent. Brookline native and stand-up comedian Ray Ellin pays tribute to a few of his fellow comics in his directorial debut "The Latin Legends of Comedy." "Hand of God" is the true story of a Salem family dealing with the aftermath of a local priest's sexual abuse, told from perspective of the survivor, his brother and his parents. "Holla at me" is the story of two brothers who grow up to be professional hit men. It's directed by the film festival's founder Patrick Jerome. Those are just a few of the more the 110 films scheduled for the Boston International Film Festival. For more information on the festival, visit bifilmfestival.com. |
