TEMPE - Three more people were robbed in Tempe on Monday and Tuesday in the wake of nine robberies in two weeks, many involving pedestrians, near Arizona State University.

Police say the two new robberies have not been linked to the previous robberies.

Three men entered a 26-year-old man's home at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of South Hardy Drive through an open front-bedroom window, police said. They took shoes and clothing and fled east on 17th Street in a light-colored, possibly silver, late-model car, police said.

On Monday, two men robbed two other men at 1:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Broadway Road. The suspects fled in a green and purple or black metallic Chevy Avalanche with large chrome rims. Anyone with information is asked to call Tempe police at (480) 350-8311.

Sex-history questioning ruled out at Fushek trial

GILBERT - A judge on Tuesday refused to force a witness to answer questions about his homosexual relationships before the upcoming trial of suspended Monsignor Dale Fushek.

Fushek's defense attorneys argued last week that Brian Jones must answer the questions to show if he had any biases, but San Tan Justice of the Peace Sam Goodman rejected their motion.

Goodman also rejected a defense motion to designate the Fushek case as complex. His ruling makes Fushek's scheduled June 2 trial more likely to go forward as scheduled. He is accused of misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, assault and indecent exposure.

The charges stem from Fushek's relationship with teenage boys while he was pastor of St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Mesa, where he founded the international Life Teen Program.

ASU provost chosen to lead Nevada Reno

TEMPE - Arizona State University Provost Milton Glick was chosen Monday to lead the University of Nevada at Reno.

The Nevada Board of Regents search committee said Glick's track record of raising the caliber of an evolving institution made him stand out among other candidates.

The regents are expected to vote on the recommendation Friday. If approved, they will then discuss his contract.

Fatal bridge dive was accidental, autopsy says

TEMPE - An autopsy revealed that a former Arizona State University student who dived off the Rural Road Bridge and drowned in Tempe Town Lake was not using drugs or alcohol and did not have any medical conditions that would have caused him to drown.

John Rose-Palermo's death was an accident, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office. On Feb. 14, the 23-year-old left his belongings and clothes behind and dived into the water, police said.
