Thomas Brunner, former principal of Mount Notre Dame High School and former pastor of Good Shepherd Church in Montgomery, has been laicized by Pope Benedict XVI.

In a letter to Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk, the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith granted Brunner's petition for laicization, or defrocking, from the priesthood.

Brunner was barred from functioning as a priest in September 2003 when a church law went into effect prohibiting priests who have offended a child from continuing in the ministry.

In November 2003, two female students filed a lawsuit in Hamilton County Common Please Court, accusing Brunner of molesting them and seeking individual damages in excess of $1 million. The case is pending on appeal in the Ohio Supreme Court. Brunner requested the laicization.

LEASH LAW, COUNCIL MEETING

The next regular meeting of Loveland City Council is 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at city hall, 120 W. Loveland Ave. On the agenda is the second reading of an ordinance to amend the current leash law. There will also be a public hearing at 8:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed leash law change.

Pending Loveland City Council approval, dogs in the city will have to be on a leash when outside of the owner's property.

The Law and Ordinance Committee reviewed Loveland's existing statute regarding the control of dogs and other animals running at large. The current statute was rather outdated, intended to restrict animals at a time when the community was more agricultural in character. Cattle, horses and fowl are listed on the current statute.

If council approves, the new law would require property owners to adequately control their dogs when on their property with a fence, leash or other restrictive devise. If the dog is off the property, it must be on a leash.

BOIKE PARK BLEACHERS

The Loveland Youth Football Association is donating permanent bleachers for the Boike Park football field. The bleachers would seat approximately 250 spectators, be sized eight-feet high and 50-feet wide and be enclosed on three sides with safety fencing and rails.

COUNCIL MEETING

A full copy of the agenda can be found at www.lovelandoh.com after 5 p.m. Friday, April 7.

MEETING RESCHEDULED

SYMMES TWP. --The Symmes Township zoning commission has canceled its regularly scheduled meeting April 19.

The commission will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, in the township administration building, 9323 Union Cemetery Road.

BUSINESS ENHANCEMENT AWARD

Loveland Mayor Rob Weisgerber presented Jeff DeVol, of DeVol Construction, with the 2005 Loveland Business Enhancement Award.

DeVol bought the old Bronner House along the Little Miami Scenic Trail and restored it. He put his business in part of the building and is letting Little Miami Inc. and Green Acres use the other half for a river lab.

This award is given every year to a business owner in Historic Loveland, the Loveland commerce park or along Loveland-Madeira Road who has enhanced their business in some way.
