	Former Downers Grove Deacon Now under Investigation in Kansas City ABC 7 April 1, 2006 http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=local&id=4044276 April 1, 2006 (DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.) - The former deacon of Downers Grove church who is already facing trial for a sexual attack in Alabama is now also the focus of a criminal investigation in Kansas City, Missouri, one that reputedly involves serial sex crimes. Kansas City police have confirmed that they are investigating the activities of 65-year-old Howard Blattel. Blattel is a former Bolingbrook resident who served as a deacon at Marquette Manor Baptist Church and Academy in Downers Grove during the late 1990s and the early part of this decade. Authorities in Alabama, where Blattel now lives, have charged him with first-degree sexual abuse, for an August 2004 attack on a woman who is now 90 years old. Blattel is one of three former Marquette Manor officials to be charged with sex-related crimes, although he has not been charged in Illinois, and the other two have.
