Catholics attending mass this Sunday at St. Peter-in-Chains Cathedral in downtown Cincinnati were handed flyers by victims of abuse by priests.

Victims and their supporters say Senate Bill 17, which is opposed by Ohio's Catholic bishops, will help expose predators who still pose a risk to children.

"It creates mandatory reporting for clergy, and it also has a one year retro-active window that would enable anybody that was a victim of child sexual abuse, to come forward for one year and file a civil lawsuit that's exposing their perpetrator," said Christy Miller, one of the campaign organizers.

"We're here not only to let people know that the bishops are using their donations to fight that bill, but also to let them know it is coming up for a vote -- and to seek their support in the form of telephone calls and e-mails to their legislators," said Dan Frondorf, another campaign organizer.

The victims want bishops to reach out to other potential victims in parishes where abuse occurred.
