The Bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church Pahomie has been acquitted on Monday on the charges of committing sexual abuse over minors.

The Trial Chamber with Nis District Court, where the trial of the Bishop took place, concluded that no sufficient evidences have been provided for backing the accusations raised by four persons, alleging the Bishop of having coerced them into sexual intercourse with him, when they were still underaged students of the religious seminar in Vranje.

The Trial Chamber established that "although there is a ground for certain level of suspicion, no solid evidence were provided".

The two priests who gave testimonies backing minors' claims were dismissed and ousted from the Church by Pahomie.

Pahomie defended himself by saying that the trial was orchestrated by secret services of Albania, Macedonia and other countries, on the account of his strong efforts aimed at protecting the Serbian interests in its south.
