Grand Jury Indicts Catholic Priest on Sexual Abuse Charges Associated Press, carried in Belleville News-Democrat [Chicago IL] February 10, 2006 http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/news/politics/13842935.htm CHICAGO - A Cook County grand jury indicted a Roman Catholic priest Friday on charges of sexually abusing three boys. The indictment mirrors previous charges against the Rev. Daniel McCormack, who faces three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, said Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Marcy Jensen. One count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, Jensen said. McCormack, 37, is scheduled to be arraigned March 1. His attorney, Patrick Reardon, who has said his client is innocent, did not immediately return a telephone call from The Associated Press for comment on the indictment. McCormack was charged Jan. 21 with sexually abusing two boys and was charged earlier this month with sexually abusing a third boy. Prosecutors say the alleged incidents occurred between September 2001 and January 2005. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago and Cardinal Francis George have come under fire because McCormack was only removed from his West Side parish when he was first charged - months after an allegation was made last August. George has conceded that he failed to act soon enough in the case. | ||
