The alleged incidents "occurred between 1969 and 1974 in Elliot Lake," said an OPP statement and are related to "a historical sexual assault investigation." Det. Sgt. Randy Gaynor, of the East Algoma detachment, said he could not comment further. Mr. Gibbs was ordained in 1961. He served parishes in the diocese of Algoma, worked in Nipigon, Ont., from 1961 to 1966, Chapleau, Ont., from 1966 to 1971, Elliot Lake from 1971 to 1980 and North Bay, Ont., in 1980. In 1981, he moved to the diocese of Ottawa and worked at Centre 454, a service centre for homeless or indigent men. He became the centre's director in 1987 and retired in 1998. |
