Reverend Frank Westhoff, 72, of Springfield, died at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at St. John's Hospice. Rev. Westhoff was born on September 13, 1933 in Charleston, the son of Clarence Anthony "Luck" and Emily Pendergast Westhoff. He was ordained on May 27, 1961, Served as Assistant at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in 1961; St. Patrick, Alton, 1961-1964; St. Patrick, Decatur, 1964 – 1968; Blessed Sacrament, Springfield, 1968 – 1972; St. James, Decatur, 1972 – 1985; Graduate Student and Hall Chaplain: University of Notre Dame, 1975 – 1976. Received his M.A. in Liturgy: 1976. He served as parochial Administrator; Immaculate Conception, Pierron and St. Nicholas, Pocahontas, 1976; St. Louis, Nokomis, 1976. Pastor: St. Mary, Pittsfield, Holy Redeemer, Barry and Holy Family, Griggsville, 1976 – 1984. He served as parochial Administrator: St. Margaret Mary, Granite City, 1984 – 1985. He served in the Admissions Office: Crosier Seminary, Onmia, MN, 1986 – 1987. He served as Diocesan Consultant: Office of Social Concerns, Diocese of Jefferson City, 1987. He served as Pastor: Holy Spirit, Centralia, MO, 1992; Queen of Peace, Ewing, MO, and St. Joseph, Palmyra, MO, 1992. He served as Temporary Newman Chaplain: Truman State University, Kirksville, MO, 1995 – 1996. He served as Parochial Administrator: St. Joseph, Louisiana, MO, and Our Lady Queen of Peace, Clarksville, MO, 1996 – 2000. Retired: 2003. Rev. Westhoff was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 364 and Fourth Degree Bishop Griffin Assembly. He was preceded in death by his parents. The friends of Reverend Frank Westhoff will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m.on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Most Reverend George J. Lucas, principal celebrant and priests of the diocese, concelebrants. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at St. Charles Borromeo, 921 Madison Ave., Charleston with Reverend Richard Chiola, celebrant. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Charleston. Memorial contributions may be made to Father Frank Westhoff Memorial Fund for vocations, C/O Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, 1615 West Washington, Springfield, IL 62708.
