Matthew Sprouffske, a member of the PCM Province, died on January 19, 2005 from cancer. He would have celebrated his 78th birthday on January 23rd. Born in Los Angeles, CA, Matt entered the Carmelites as a member of the St. Elias Province. When California became part of the PCM Province, he took the option of joining that Province. He worked for many years among the poor of Los Angeles in the parish of St. Raphael and in education. While living at the residence of the Brothers of John of God, he took special interest in the Carmelites who lived in the nursing home next door. Matt professed simple vows as a Carmelite on September 8, 1948 and was ordained priest on July 18, 1954.
