Ogden Priest Pleads Not Guilty to Charge Associated Press, carried in Deseret News (Salt Lake City) May 28, 2003 OGDEN — The Rev. Mario Arbelaez Olarte pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of enticing a minor over the Internet on Tuesday in state court. Olarte, who was arrested after chatting online with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old boy, will have a pretrial hearing on June 24. Olarte has been placed on administrative leave by St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He said he was doing research about the evils of the Internet for a sermon when he arranged to meet the officer posing as the boy at an Ogden street corner. Defense attorney Bernard Allen did not return a phone call Tuesday from The Associated Press. |
