Services Held for Rev. Linssen Sitka Daily Sentinel October 7, 1960 Fairbanks: Funeral services were held in Bethel Wednesday for the Rev. Paul Linssen, Catholic missionary who perished on a boat rip from Bethel to Nelson Island in the Bering Sea Sept. 16. The body of Bernard Nurak, a passenger in Father Linssen's board, still had not been found. Father Linssen's body was found last Friday about 100 miles downstream from the wreckage of the 40-foot boat. The two men left Bethel shortly before a storm swept the area and were believed to have been caught in midstream when it broke. Fr. Linssen, from Holland, had served the natives in the Nelson Island area as a missionary for about the past five years. He was on a supply trip to the island when he lost his life. Word of the funeral was sent here by a Bethel pastor, the Rev. Henry Hargreaves. |
