Assignment Record – Rev. John H. Duggan, s.j.

Summary of Case: A Jesuit of the Maryland Province ordained in 1957, Duggan lived and worked in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey, and in Nigeria. In 2002 a man reported to the Baltimore archdiocese that his son was sexually abused by Duggan in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Duggan worked at Loyola High School in Towson, Maryland during those years. The Official Catholic Directory shows Duggan to have been at the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania at the time of the report and until 2004. He died January 10, 2004.

Scranton bishop was Jerome Daniel Hannan (1954-1965), followed by Joseph Carroll McCormick (1966-1983).

Scranton Prep. had 340-486 students, all male.

Duggan is indexed in the Directories as at Scranton Prep. during these years, but he is not listed as there in the Scranton diocesan pages.

• In 2002 a man told the archdiocese that his son had been sexually abused by Duggan in the late 1960s to early 1970s.

Loyola High had 697-715 students, all male.

The 1971 and 1972 Directories index but do not list Duggan in the Baltimore diocesan pages as at Loyola High.

Camden bishop was George Henry Guilfoyle (1968-1989).

John Joseph O'Connor succeeded McCormick as Scranton bishop (1983-1984), followed by James Clifford Timlin (1984-2003).

1995

Joseph Francis Martino replaced Timlin as Scranton bishop (2003-2009).

The 2004 and 2005 Directories indicate Duggan was at Campion Hall.

Duggan died January 10, 2004.
