Janssen recants admission

Quad-City Times

The former priest who admitted Wednesday that he sexually abused his nephew in the 1950s took the stand this morning to tell the jury the abuse had not happened and he had lied on the stand.

James Janssen called child sexual abuse “horrible” and “gross” and testified all the allegations made by James Wells during the civil lawsuit trial were false.

He perjured himself because he was overwhelmed by the case and his attorney told him the jury wouldn’t believe him if he denied the abuse happened, he said.

“I was trying to please,” Janssen said.
