Archbishop Gregory Aymond says he will release files related to sexual abuse committed by priests in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

According to our partners at NOLA.com, Aymond says the document release is part of the archdiocese’s long-running bankruptcy case, which now is in its fifth year. The documents, Aymond said, will be available once the case is resolved.

Aymond also said he’s willing to meet with small groups of abuse survivors and hear their stories. According to Aymond, those meetings would take place in a neutral “safe space” and be closed to the public and the media..

Aymond told the newspaper that the archdiocese continues to scan thousands of church documents dating back to the 19th Century in order to comply with a Louisiana State Police search warrant served on the archdiocese in April related to criminal investigations of sexual abuse committed by priests.
