Sentencing for the former Richmond mega church pastor Geronimo Aguilar began with emotional testimony from one of the victims, but also new explosive allegations — a Richmond woman who says the former pastor got her pregnant and paid for her abortion.
“We were having an affair,” said the woman, former Richmond Outreach Center parishioner who did not want to be identified. “I went to him and told him I would abort but I didn’t have any money.”
While cross examining, Aguilar’s attorney asked every witness about the outreach of the former ROC church and the difference it made in the Richmond community. It appears to be part of an effort to show Aguilar, who founded the mega church, did some good in his life.
So far, the judge has heard from more than six witnesses for the prosecution including the father of a Richmond teen who during the trial testified that Aguilar molested her at the ROC church.
“He is wolf in sheep’s clothing because that’s what he did to my family he was a predator on my family,” the father said.
Earlier on Monday, a tearful Nancy Mohr told the judge the years of sexual abuse has left her struggling emotionally and mentally and she says its destroyed relationships with her family.
“I just had a lot of issues a lot of baggage and just shame and guilt and insecurities,” Mohr told the court Monday.
Aguilar was found guilty in June of sexually assaulting Mohr and her sister Lani when he was their youth pastor in Fort Worth, Texas back in the 1990s. It is not clear how many witnesses the defense plans to call to the stand, we do know Aguilar’s uncle will testify.
Aguilar is facing the possibility of life in prison.
