HIBBING — The Hibbing priest charged with sexual misconduct in May now faces an additional charge of criminal sexual conduct and a new charge of possession of child pornography.

Brian M. Lederer, 29, appeared before Judge David E. Ackerson in St. Louis County District Court in Hibbing Thursday. During the hearing, Ackerson granted the prosecution’s motion to amend the formal complaint to reflect the two additional charges.

Lederer was ordained in June 2012 and was an associate pastor at Blessed Sacrament when was arrested and charged. He often had contact with children of the parish and students at Assumption School.

Once charged, Lederer was placed on administrative leave by the Diocese of Duluth. While on leave, he is not allowed to minister as a priest and/or have contact with anyone under age 18.

Lederer posted $250,000 bond in May and was released.

This brings the total number of criminal sexual conduct charges against Lederer to six.

The previous charges are allegations brought forth by three females under the age of 16. Each claims that Lederer touched them in inappropriate areas while at school.

Incidents also occurred at the home of two of the minors.

The new charge of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree stems from allegations by a fourth female under the age of 13 who claims Lederer touched one of her breasts while at the school, according to court records.

She also corroborated with another victim who claimed she was touched inappropriately by Ledere while playing hide and seek at the school.

Court records also list and describe the images of child porn allegedly found and websites allegedly accessed on Lederer’s personal computer. The images included minors of both genders and at least one of the images was a classroom-like setting.

Lederer’s Attorney Peter Wold said in court Thursday that they plan to contest probable cause and will request that the previous charges and new charges be severed into two separate cases.

Lederer was present for the hearing. He has yet to enter a plea.

The maximum penalty for criminal sexual conduct in the second degree is $35,000 and/or 25 years jail. The charge of possession of child pornography carries a penalty of $5,000 in fines and/or five years jail for a first offense.

Lederer’s next court appearance was set for Oct. 1.
