CALDWELL — A teacher at Caldwell’s Centennial Baptist Church was sentenced Monday to 11 ½ years in prison for sexual abuse of three child victims from the church.
District Judge Bradly S. Ford sentenced Casey R. Dyck, 24, of McMinnville, Oregon, for sexual battery of a minor child 16 to 17 years of age. He could be eligible for parole after 1 ½ years are served.
Caldwell Police arrested Dyck in February after an investigation revealed he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an underage female student on numerous occasions in April and May of 2014 while he was a teacher, according to a Canyon County news release.
The investigation also revealed that Dyck had exchanged inappropriate photos and texts with numerous underage victims that were sexual in nature. One victim said Dyck informed her that he would give her extra credit if she wore short skirts and low-cut tops to school.
The sexual contact happened at numerous locations, including Dyck’s home in Caldwell and the school.
“When people make selfish decisions to try to gratify themselves at the expense of a child, it has lifelong implications,” Ford said during sentencing. “It is concerning to this court that someone in a position of authority who is supposed to be a moral leader, an educational leader, would exploit them.”
Dyck was also ordered to pay a $5,000 civil penalty, $2,000 in restitution and $750 in fines and court costs.
Dyck must also register as a sex offender, submit a DNA sample to the Idaho Database and have no contact with the three victims or any minor females for the duration of his sentence unless ordered by the court.
“Mr. Dyck used his position of trust as a teacher and youth pastor to groom these young girls and then take advantage of them,” said Canyon County Prosecutor Bryan Taylor. “I’m thankful that the court can see the damage he’s caused them, and for that, he deserves to be behind bars.”
