200 Catholic Bishops Convene at the Hyatt, Rip Carl T. Bauer, Jon Hamm up for Emmy

The full sun still shining down on us loonies who listen to nationally-syndicated show, “Coast to Coast,” may like to learn that host George Noory has launched a dating website for “paranormal aficianados”. . .Pew Research Center announced the highest level of support for same-sex marriage: 57 percent of Americans for: 39 percent opposed. . .Noted Catholic church observer and blogger Rocco Palmo reports that “in his new job as catechesis czar for Pope Francis’ Evangelicism panel ,” German prelate Tebartz Van-Elst is in our town advising some of the 200+ bishops who are meeting this week at the downtown Hyatt. Van-Elst is better known as “The Bishop of Bling,” after he generated world-wide headlines by spending $43 million renovating his mansion. (The papal pick was also fined for perjury having sworn he and a colleague flew coach to India when, in fact, they’d flown first class).

ON THE EVE of the U.S. Conference of Bishops annual confab here, SNAP is posting online a virtual “Predator Priest Tour” concentrating on about 50 “proven, admitted or credibly accused molesting clerics” who lived or worked (still do) in the central corridor. . .Fans of our town’s Jon Hamm are hoping he’ll win the gold with an Emmy at the awards show 7 p.m., Sept. 20. Other perennial nominees: Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards) and Jeff Daniels (“The Newsroom”). . .A woman flying from India to Missouri and Tennessee has sought treatment for a tuberculosis strain that is highly resistant to drug therapy. CDC is still trying to locate passengers from the manifest list. . .Mizzou and Arkansas State kickoff on Sept. 12 will be streamed on ESPN3 via WatchESPN.

A CONTINGENT from our town accompanied Patti Bauer to D.C. for the burial of her husband, Carl T. Bauer, most recently a lawyer with Armstrong Teasdale. Bauer was a highly-decorated Navy pilot during the Vietnam conflict and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors including a flyover. Among those present were Tim and Nancy Tegler, Glenn and Susan Davis, Mass Shakiba and Jean Schifferdecker. . .Hubbard St. Louis Radio Group’s 106.5 The Arch has dubbed hometowner Sherry Farmer as the host of the station’s Midday Show beginning June 15. . .CrowdSource, a leader in the growing freelance economy, has agreed to purchase St. Louis-based SideraWorks, a management consulting firm
