A Fairbanks priest was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for child sex crimes, according to a news release from the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Alaska.
Clint Michael Landry, 58, was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Fairbanks when he used a work computer to view videos of prepubescent boys and girls engaging in sexual acts, according to the news release.
Landry’s online activities were discovered in May 2014 when a custodian found an open email on a publicly-accessible computer at the defendant’s employer-provided residence, according to charging documents. The email contained a picture showing a young Asian female about 13 years old engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The custodian informed his supervisor and an investigation ensued. The computer was found to contain multiple sexually explicit emails between Landry and others soliciting photos or video from minors or from co-conspirators in the Philippines. Landry negotiated with the co-conspirators to view live videos of minors through streaming services such as Skype, according to court documents.
In at least three of the communications with conspirators, Landry asked to see sex shows involving children younger than 11 years old, according to the news release.
On June 13, 2014, Landry asked one co-conspirator “can you show me young boys?” and “what handsome young boys do you have?”
At one point, Landry was offered images of an 11-year-old girl but resisted the offer, according to the news release. When informed the only other option was an 18-year-old male, Landry asked for the “young show” and said he’d send money the next day.
Landry originally was charged with attempted production of child pornography and attempted enticement of a minor. He agreed to plead guilty to the second count and the first count was dismissed.
After Landry is released from prison, he will be on supervised release for life, according to the terms of the plea deal.
Landry began working for the diocese in June 2011. The offenses occurred between June 2013 and May 2014, according to the news release.
