There are at least three ironies in the abuse and financial scandal swirling around ex-GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois. While a state legislator, Hastert touted his backing of child abuse prevention laws. While in Congress, he pushed for legislation designed to stop money laundering – which later led to his own wrongdoing being prosecuted. And his son Ethan works for the Chi-town firm of Mayer Brown, whose lawyers have helped Catholic officials there fight lawsuits brought by victims of pedophile abuse.

HASTERT’S LINK TO FORMER REP. DICK GEPHARDT

According to documents filed by the Justice Dept., Hastert of the lobbying firm, Dickstein Shapiro, “his client Turkey paid the firm $240k in 2014 through The Gephardt Group.” Pritikin ICR,, once owned by our town’s Sam Fox, paid $10k to Hastert.

“THE FERGUSON EFFECT” is how Breitbart has titled an article, that reads “we need ‘stop-and-frisk.” The blog: “Now, due to cynical dishonest (Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown) community-organizing political campaign waged against the police by the White House and its surrogates in the civil rights community (SPLC, Al Sharpton) and the media (primarily CNN). . .innocent people are the ones imprisoned in their own homes.”

RESIDENTS OF MAPLEWOOD should be on the look-out for representatives of the Ameren Missouri Pure Power Team going door-to-door promoting the “EPA Green Power Challenge,” says a mailer to households from city officials. That program gives homeowners and businesses tips on “reducing our carbon footprint” and urges them to install solar panels or buy “renewable energy certificates to match their electricity with green power.”
