The head of an Elgin school devoted to the teachings of Islam has been charged with the sexual abuse of one of his former employees, according to the Elgin Police Department.
Mohammad Abdullah Saleem, 75, is charged with criminal sexual abuse for an incident involving a 23-year-old woman that allegedly occurred on campus in April 2014, police said.
Saleem is the president of The Institute of Islamic Education, which, according to its website, was founded in Elgin in 1989.
Saleem was taken into custody on Sunday after an “extensive investigation,” police said.
Saleem is due in bond court in Rolling Meadows later this morning.
No one could be immediately reached at the Institute Tuesday morning.
