Of human interest: KSDK, Channel 5?s Mike Bush and his wife, Claudia, have become grandparents of Ashton Bush, who was Baptized this week. The Bushes joined Channel 5 sportscasting journalist Frank Cusumano and his wife, Monique, at the Cusumano family-owned Kemoll’s (now in its 88th year). Mike will be toasted on his 30th year at the station come July. Frank has been reporting sports there for 21 years. And, the affable Cindy Preszler has been forecasting weather for only 16 years. At another table, aging hipster Gus Torregrossa, who once vended athletic apparel at his Gus’s Fashions in downtown, lamented that Michelle Vitale, daughter of Millie and the late/notorious John Vitale, is sadly homeless. . .Kel Nagle, who quashed Arnold Palmer’s attempt to win his third straight major tournament, has died in his native Australia at 94. In 1965, after four rounds of the U.S. Open at our town’s Bellerive C.C. , the star golfer won the 18-hole playoff. . .Popular KMOX host Charlie Brennan challenged his immense audience this week: “Name two governors of other states who spent part of their childhoods in St. Louis.” The answer: Pete Wilson of California and Ted Kulongoski of Oregon. Brennan revealed that he once tried to get Kulongoski on his show but he was rebuffed. Kulongoski said it was too painful to talk about his childhood, spent at St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in south city. (At least three child sex abuse lawsuits – one involving Fr. Alex Anderson – have been filed against the home.). . .Forgot to mention in a previous item, that the Broadway Oyster Bar & Restaurant is among the top grossing eateries here. . .A toast to Dianne (nee Breckenridge) and Ray Barrett, who has been crowned chairman at the SmartMouth Corp., which turns out tooth paste, mouth washes, gum and mints. He also remains chairman of global Biomedical Systems, which he founded. Ray is a holder of a number of patents that include a futuristic technology “that may revolutionize the golf industry.”
SUPER BOWL XLIX SPORTSBOOKS report that the Seattle Seahawks are the underdog while the N.E. Patriots at 1-to-2 point favorites.
